Rob Lowe was supposed to be McDreamy and other nubbits around the skinny-sphere

  • Lifedempsey On Jan. 13, Happy 41st birthday Patrick Dempsey! Rob Lowe was the original pick to be Meredith’s love Dr. McDreamy on Grey’s Anatomy. However, Rob passed on the role, and Patrick Dempsey landed the gig. Rob Lowe is a fine actor but I think the chemistry with Dempsey is more sympatico. Here’s Dempsey on the chemistry with Ellen Pompeo:

LIFE: Luckily, you and Ellen Pompeo must have had great chemistry during your audition.

DEMPSEY: They didn’t offer me the part. I got it because Rob Lowe turned it down. But first I had to test with her, so she had all the cards. She was very attentive during my audition, and I felt . . . welcomed. Also, she had a Boston accent, and I’m from Maine. I found that endearing. [Life.com]

  • And speaking of landing cool gigs, my friend Valeria from the blog Conversation Agent has just landed a blogging gig on Fast Company.com on the topic of Customer Service. Valeria is a very talented writer and smart lady. Go check out her very first post, “From 0 to 60 at the speed of Liking.” [Fast Company.com]
  • Paula Abdul is bringing the Bratz Dolls to the big screen for a summer release. But this isn’t going to be a cartoony thing. Oh no! They are going to cast four real-life gals to play Bratz girls. Great! I can’t wait to see the ho-ish dolls come to life to inspire junior high-ers to dress like hoochies Bratz. [Celebrity Week]

Top 10 Detox Foods

Posted Wed, Jan 10, 2007, 10:31 am PST

Yahoo food has compiled a list of 10 foods to jump start your new years health resolution.  The focus is on detoxifying foods.  Listed are foods that clean out your system and get you ready for that healthier diet you have planned.

POST A COMMENT »

As 2007 swings into gear, there’s no better time to give your body a healthy, fresh start than now! Plus if you’re thinking about lowering your weight – and your RealAge “eating clean” is a great first step. Add these 10 foods to your grocery cart and you’ll get three terrific benefits:

1. Lots of super-healthy liquids to flush out the body while pouring in nutrients.

2. Fiber to keep your GI tract fit.

3. Foods that energize cleansing enzymes in the liver, your body’s built-in detox center.

 The top 10:

  1.
    1. Green leafy vegetables. Eat them raw, throw them into a broth, add them to juices. Their chlorophyll helps swab out environmental toxins (heavy metals, pesticides) and is an all-round liver protector.
    2. Lemons. You need to keep the fluids flowing to wash out the body and fresh lemonade is ideal. Its vitamin C – considered the detox vitamin – helps convert toxins into a water – soluble form that?s easily flushed away.
    3. Watercress.  Put a handful into salads, soups, and sandwiches. The peppery little green leaves have a diuretic effect that helps move things through your system. And cress is rich in minerals too.
    4. Garlic. Add it to everything – salads, sauces, spreads. In addition to the bulb’s cardio benefits, it activates liver enzymes that help filter out junk.
    5. Green tea. This antioxidant-rich brew is one of the healthiest ways to get more fluids into your system. Bonus: It contains catechins, which speed up liver activity.
    6. Broccoli sprouts. Get ‘em at your health-food store. They pack 20 to 50 times more cancer-fighting, enzyme-stimulating activity into each bite than the grown-up vegetable.
    7. Sesame seeds. They’re credited with protecting liver cells from the damaging effects of alcohol and other chemicals. For a concentrated form, try tahini, the yummy sesame seed paste that?s a staple of Asian cooking.
    8. Cabbage. There are two main types of detoxifying enzymes in the liver; this potent veggie helps activate both of them. Coleslaw, anyone?
    9. Psyllium. A plant that?s rich in soluble fiber, like oat bran, but more versatile. It mops up toxins (cholesterol too) and helps clear them out. Stir powdered psyllium into juice to help cleanse your colon, or have psyllium-fortified Bran Buds for breakfast.
    10. Fruits, fruits, fruits. They’re full of almost all the good things above – vitamin C, fiber, nutritious fluids, and all kinds of antioxidants. Besides, nothing tastes better than a ripe mango, fresh berries, or a perfect pear.

Men’s Fashion Week in Milan Is In Full Swing

It is Men’s Fashion Week in Milan and from what I’ve been reading so far, it seems that black has dominated the runways this season.  Emporio Armani is quoted as saying, “We tried to put colour in the collection, but as you can see, we couldn’t manage it.”armani%20men.jpg

I can understand that it can be a challenge to add color to a menswear line – after all, men do want to look uh, masculine.  Well, what about dark greens or browns?

Oh, and let’s definitely make note that big orange cowboy hats and purple sweaters are in as well…You can certainly count on Versace Vivienne Westwood to go over the edge with fashion, eh?

Beckhams Set to Invade America

Beckhams Set to Invade America

Star gazers were agog on Thursday over the impending arrival in Los Angeles of soccer idol David Beckham and his wife Victoria and their debut on the world’s biggest celebrity stage.

Although far from a household name in the United States, the couple dubbed “Posh and Becks” by the British media nevertheless look set to become one of Hollywood’s hottest properties when Beckham starts a five-year contract in August with soccer team Los Angeles Galaxy.

“This is a big, big, big deal. The office here is atwitter this morning. We have had so many people volunteering just to be on Posh and Becks watch,” said Ryan Patterson, supervising producer with syndicated celebrity TV show Access Hollywood.

Beckham’s good looks and the trend-setting style of his wife, former Spice Girl Victoria “Posh Spice” Adams, are expected to fill more pages than his soccer skills in a town where parties are more talked about than penalties.

“I can’t name a better-looking man on the planet. The ‘guy candy’ quotient in America just got upped a whole bunch,” Ms. Patterson said.

The Beckhams will bring a breath of fresh air to a scene wearying of over-exposed stars such as Britney Spears, Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan.

Celebrity watchers said they could fill the gap left by couples like Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, and Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, both of whom have shunned publicity in recent months to raise their young children.“We are really excited about it. David and Victoria together could potentially become the hottest couple in Hollywood. There is a big void there,” said Ken Baker, west coast editor of Us Weekly magazine.

“We will probably have to get extra staffing just to deal with them,” Baker joked.

The Beckhams are already friends of Cruise and Holmes — whose Italian wedding they attended last November — and Victoria was spotted house hunting last summer in wealthy Malibu and Bel-Air. David already runs a soccer academy for young players in Los Angeles.

“Victoria has told friends she likes Los Angeles and likes being in Hollywood. She’s been to The Ivy (restaurant), she’s been to The Polo Lounge, she’s been to fashion shows. She is familiar with the landscape and I think everyone will welcome them because they are fresh faces,” said Baker.

Patterson said Americans who follow celebrities were fascinated with the couple. “There is a certain mystique to them. He is gorgeous, she is gorgeous, she is a style icon. They live this incredibly glamorous jet set life.”

Despite the paparazzi, the Beckhams may find Los Angeles a welcome relief from the fish-bowl of their native Britain and from Madrid, their most recent home.

“In LA, paparazzi do chase stars but celebrities can get lost here a little more and blend because there are a lot of other big celebrities here too,” said Baker.

LSI Guide To Lock Picking Review!

Independent Unbiased Review Of

LSI Guide To Lock Picking

LSI Guide COver
[note: this is not the real LSI Guide cover, there is no real cover, this is just our own parody cover]

By EZ Picker

The newest lock picking guide was released a few days ago and is said to be the MIT killer. This is a 22 action packed page guide available in PDF.

It contains wonderful photographs through out. Unfortunately the whole guide is made up entirely of graphics! No text, all graphics. Which makes it cumbersome to use since the images take so long to load. 5MB for 22 page PDF. There is no index, or table of contents that you can click on to get to another section faster, because the entire guide is made up in graphics! Not the best way to design a PDF guide or report. It looks like a comic book uses comic book caption images for text, like you read in comic books, ZOINK! BANG! THUMP! You get the idea.

Other then the obvious design flaws of the guide, every thing else is very good. The graphics are excellent. This is definitely a guide for beginners, preferrably for younger ages that will enjoy the comic book style. It is packed with a lot of really useful information, but I do not consider this a MIT killer or even close. It is a nice contribution to the locksport community, albiet perhaps mostly for school kids.

Sadly missing on this guide are links to *other* lock picking resources. None found on their main site or their forum. IMHO this subtracts 1 point from the review. More then the design.

Out of 5 Stars, 5 being the highest,
I give it 3-1/2 stars
(it was amusing).

Children Picking Locks!

Children As Young As 9 Years Old Learning To Pick Locks From Internet!

Yes it’s TRUE! There are hundreds of videos on the Internet that kids have submitted showing off how easy they can pick locks, on youtune, google video, and yahoo video!

I recently gave two kids, ages 11 and 14 padlocks and picks and showed them how I pick a lock, no further explaination or training and they both popped open their locks in a matter of minutes!

Yes it’s true some locks are harder to pick, beyond the capabilites of most people with out a lot of practice, but’s surprising to learn just how many normal every day common locks you come in contact with at homes or work are so easy to pick even a child can do it!

Don’t believe me? Watch this short video clip of a 9 year old picking several locks in just a matter of minutes!
9 Year Old Lock Picker

What can you do about this? Buy better locks! Survey your home and work to make sure your not so vulnerable from just neighborhood kids out looking for new locks to practice their new found skill! Replace your Kwikset house locks, those are too easy to pick! Replace your master padlocks with higher security locks! Even though Master claims to be pick resistant or high security, most of them are pretty easy to pick!

Stay safe by being better informed!

Security By Obscurity

False Security?

There is a term being used in the lock industry called security by obscurity. What this means in this circumstance is to keep quit about security flaws and how to bypass locks.

This practice has been observed by the lock manufacturers and the locksmith associates for the past hundred years. Recently however a new hobby and sport known as lock sport or lockpicking sport, made up of various law abiding people from all walks of life who enjoy picking locks as a hobby or for the sport of it. They have been uncovering many long held secrets about security flaws from the leading lock manufacturer’s. At first they submitted their findings to the lock manufacturers, but they either ignored them or denied them, or down played them! Frustrated with the lack of support and interest from the lock manufacturers and even the locksmiths, these hobbyists went public to warn every one of these security flaws.

Needless to say the lock manufacturers and locksmith associations were not too pleased with this development. They chastised these groups and continued to down play the warnings. They accused the locksport as a whole of defying a long time traditional code of ethics, that is to keep quit about security flaws as if they do not exist.

Now I can certainly understand why the lock manufacturers would prefer to keep quit, but I can not understand or agree with the locksmith associations for keeping the manufacturers dirty little secrets!

Security by Obscurity is NOT any kind of solution to security flaws in locks. It only keeps the innocent consumer in the dark of how unsafe their locks are! Criminals can just as easily discover these flaws as lock picking hobbyists. Many of these locks are so poorly constructed with loose tolerances that they are easy to pick or bypass. Yet these same brands dare to print High Security on the packages of locks!

The most recent discover that broke news all around the world which was revealed by the German and Netherland lockpicking clubs was about bumping and bump keys! The news spread fast! Bumping a lock is so easy even a child can do it! This techniques is NOT new however. It has been known by locksmiths for about 50 years! It was kept a secret for that long! So when the locksport community broke the silence and the media ate it up, the locksmith associations quickly charged these groups as being irresponsible! Imagine that, they considered warning the general public of a potentual security danger irresponsible, however considered keeping it a secret responsible!

The most vocal association in this matter was the American Locksmith Association (ALA), who goes out of there way to trample on “fake locksmiths”, yet totally ignores all the security flaws created by the lock manufacturers! This same association made a public chastising of Marc Weber Tobias at Security.Org, accusing him of being irresponsible for his part in building public awareness of these security flaws and pushing for tougher legislation on the distribution of bump keys.

Associations like the ALA would prefer if people in the locksport community would either shut up or just go away! But lock picking as a hobby is hardly doing either! It has spread through out Europe first and is now catching on in North America!

People like Barry Wels, founder and president of the Netherland based lockpicking club known as Toool, and Barry’s blog BlagBag are widely iresponsible for starting all this in motion and providing unrestricted information regarding lock picking and the many security flaws in locks. Instead of the lock manufacturers using this information to improve their locks, they still largely ignore them or down play them!

The locksport has grown to such a degree that there is no turning back now! Blogs, web sites, and forums are popping up all over the place! Two such forums are ezPicking, known as the Independent Locksport Voice, and The Lockpickers Network. Along with many other blogs and web pages, these sites are promoting a new hobby and building public awareness of security flaws that have long been igored. This to me seems to be a very responsible thing to do!

If you found this article interesting and worth your time, would you please vote for us and digg it?
Thank You!
